Jacks take 6th in West Fargo Border Battle

Jan. 3—WEST FARGO, N.D. — With seven Minnesota teams competing in the West Fargo Border Battle, the Bemidji High School boys swimming and diving team had the second-best finish among them.

The Lumberjacks took sixth in the multi-state meet with 168 points. Fergus Falls had the best finish for a Minnesota team in the Border Battle, coming in fourth with 213 points.

The team of Matthew Winkle, Daniel Scherling, William Lohse and Brayden Anderson had the best finish for the Jacks, getting third in the 200-yard medley (1:45.84). Scherling went on to place fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.69), with Anderson placing eighth (1:06.96). Winkle finished seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.30).

Tanner Johnson placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.20) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.42). Along with Abraham Benson, Andrew Breczinski and Kyle Yoder, Johnson earned a top 10 finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing ninth (1:40.32).

Crockett Puschinsky finished the 1-meter dive with a score of 318.05, good for eighth place.
