Is Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett okay with all the losing?

1 week ago 2

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has had a solid statistical season in 2025 since taking over as the starting quarterback. With one game to go, he has set career highs in passing yards (3,123) and touchdown passes (21). He has only thrown seven interceptions.

However, in his 11 starts this season, the Cardinals are 1-10. He is 2-14 in 18 starts over the last two season and, for his career, he is 20-44 as a starter.

Brissett had an interesting comment on Wednesday when he spoke with reporters.

"I would much rather this than the alternative of not playing, getting a chance to just go out there and compete and play a kids game that I grew up playing since I was five, you know what I mean," he said.

Wanting to play is normal for any NFL player. He spoke of finally getting an opportunity to play and start after not knowing when it would be.

But here is the most interesting part of what he said, because it can be taken a certain way.

"I mean, obviously things haven't gone our way this year, but again, I'll take this over the alternative."

What does this sound like? It sounds like he would rather be a starter on a terrible team than be sitting on a good team, as if Brissett is okay with the losing.

Could he really mean that he would rather play on a terrible team than not to be in the league at all? That is also one way to look at it.

But Brissett's chill demeanor in the face of so much bad play and losing leads one to beg the question — does he care that they are losing? Maybe that is why there is so much being said about how he is different in the locker room. He isn't pushing teammates to be better and win. He isn't bristling against the mistakes or being unhappy with how things are going.

His play on the field has not been bad. However, he has not come through in any high-leverage situation where winning is on the line.
