Inter Milan are not planning to sign a new central defender in January, even if one of their senior figures leaves the club during the winter transfer window.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, either Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij could depart should Joao Cancelo give the green light to a move to Inter.

In that scenario, one of the two veteran centre-backs would head to Al-Hilal.

Therefore, allowing the Nerazzurri to ease their wage bill.

Such a move would inevitably leave Cristian Chivu with one fewer option at the back.

However, the report stresses that Inter’s intention is not to intervene further in the market.

Even to replace the departing defender during the January window.

From the club’s perspective, the current defensive unit is considered sufficient to reach the end of the season.

Inter believe internal solutions, combined with squad flexibility and careful management of minutes, can compensate for any potential departure.

Whether this stance will hold if the situation evolves remains to be seen.

However, for now the message from Viale della Liberazione is clear. No additional centre-back signing is planned this month.
