Fans of Major League Baseball and the San Diego Padres were surprised to learn the Seidler family was going to explore options for selling the team following the conclusion of the 2025 season. Late owner Peter Seidler stated before he passed that he wanted the team to remain in the family, with expectations that one day in the future his children would control the franchise. However, expectations now, even from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, are that the franchise will be sold and a new owner will take on the challenge of bringing the first World Series Championship to San Diego. In the coming weeks, Cheri Bell of Gaslamp Ball will look at each potential owner of the Padres, and she started with billionaire Joe Lacob.
