A minor league baseball team in South Florida is going all in on the frozen iguana phenomenon.
For those new to the state, iguanas are an invasive species in Florida, originally brought here from Central and South America. Cold-blooded reptiles who thrive in the summer heat, as the temperature goes down, so do the iguanas. When it hits below 50 degrees, iguanas often can be seen in a dormant “frozen” state and even fall out of trees. But don't worry, the iguanas usually remain unharmed and spring back to life when the sun comes out ... unless they get scooped up by a predator while in their coma.

The Palm Beach Cardinals, the Class A Florida State League team of the St. Louis Cardinals, are creating what's called a "first alternate identity rebrand," and will be called The Frozen Iguanas.
The name change will only happen for a limited time in 2026 at the teams' home stadium, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter. The Cardinals will be wearing specially designed Frozen Iguanas hats and jerseys, featuring icy blues and vibrant greens, on all 12 home Saturdays, including the opener on April 4 against the St. Lucie Mets. The uniforms will be unveiled at Fan Fest on Jan. 10 at the stadium.
