The Fresno State Bulldogs ended this week with a split in their contests, beating San Jose State 70-55 on Wednesday, and dropped a 71-52 decision to San Diego State on Saturday.

In Wednesday’s contest, in which the Bulldogs ended a six-game losing streak, DeShawn Gory ended with a double-double in scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Fresno State used an early 11-0 run to take a commanding 22-9 lead in the first half before the Spartans got it to within seven late in the first stanza. Then a quick six points to end the first half split between Gory, Jake Heidbreder, and Wilson Jacques gave the Bulldogs a 37-24 halftime lead.

Jacques and Gory would lead an early second half run as well that pushed the Fresno State lead to 49-30. Then a 12-2 San Jose State run made it 51-42 and would give fans the feeling of earlier this season collapses in the second half.

The Bulldogs were able to fight off those demons, and the Spartans, led by David Douglas Jr. who would score five points by himself, that would extend the lead back to 56-42 with nine minutes to go.

From there the teams would go back and forth the rest of the night, ending in the Fresno State 15-point victory.

On Saturday, it was quite the opposite against the Aztecs.

On a night where the Bulldogs shot 31% from the field, Gory would once again end up with a double-double, scoring 16 points and having 14 rebounds.

The poor shooting in the first half allowed San Diego State to build a 36-21 halftime lead. And even though the shooting picked up in the second half for the Bulldogs, the Aztecs would then use their size to keep Fresno State at arm’s length.

Jake Heidbreder added 11 points in the loss, struggling himself from the field, going 3-for-15.
