Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Cole Gonzales had little more than a cup of coffee in Norman, but it looks like the former two-time Walter Payton Award finalist at the FCS level will be on the move again.
Gonzales, who played for Pittsburgh in 2025, has once again entered the transfer portal. He came to OU as a transfer from FCS Western Carolina, committing to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle to provide depth in a rebuilt QB room. Oklahoma handed the starting job to Washington State transfer John Mateer, while Gonzales competed for reps with returnee Michael Hawkins Jr. and true freshman Jett Niu.

He spent spring ball with the Sooners, but decided to enter the portal again during the spring window and ended up with the Panthers. Gonzales went 11 of 22 for 118 yards, one touchdown and one interception, appearing in just three games as a second and third-stringer. With true freshman Mason Heintschel entrenched as the long-term starter at Pitt, it looks like Gonzales will be on the move again, looking to contribute at his next school.
