Former Oklahoma DB set to transfer to Utah

5 days ago 2

The Oklahoma Sooners have seen a flurry of exits and entrances via the transfer portal over the last few days, and the action is far from stopping. One of those exits has found a new home in the portal, where he'll look to make his collegiate debut.

Former OU defensive back Marcus Wimberly is transferring to Utah, he announced on Tuesday. Wimberly was a member of Oklahoma's 2025 recruiting class, and he spent just one year in Norman. Wimberly did not see the field for the Sooners, after undergoing shoulder surgery in June. He'll have four years of eligibility remaining with the Utes, after taking a redshirt this past year.

Utah is in a transition phase heading in 2026, as Morgan Scalley takes over at head coach in the wake of longtime head man Kyle Whittingham's departure. Now, the Utes will add a young safety to their defense, and Wimberly is a player who still has plenty of potential.

Wimberly also continues a trend of former OU players heading to Big 12 schools. Utah's new young safety joins defensive back Devon Jordan (Baylor), quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. (West Virginia), defensive back Maliek Hawkins (West Virginia), and offensive lineman Jake Taylor (Iowa State) as players from Oklahoma's 2025 roster that will compete in the Big 12 next year.
