Former Georgia quarterback enters transfer portal for third time

A former Georgia Bulldog quarterback has entered the transfer portal for the third time in the past three years. Sacramento State quarterback Jaden Rashada has hit the portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

Rashada has had a tumultuous career ever since being a four-star from the class of 2023. Originally, he had committed and signed to play for the Florida Gators in Dec. 21, 2022, but decommitted from the school on Jan. 20, 2023, after an NIL contract worth a reported $13 million fell through. He is still in a lawsuit with the university over the NIL agreement.

Rashada signed with the Arizona Sun Devils on Feb. 2, 2023, and as a freshman, he did decently. He totaled 485 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions in three games. However, with quarterback Sam Leavitt winning the starting job, Rashada decided to hit the transfer portal on April 18, 2024.

Five days later, on April 25, 2024, Rashada transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs. He was expected to win the backup role to Carson Beck, but unfortunately, he lost out to Gunner Stockton, who eventually ended up starting in the 2025 Sugar Bowl vs. Notre Dame. Rashada went to the portal a second time on Jan. 5, 2025.

After a while in the transfer portal, he decided to train instead of returning to UGA. However, the Sacramento State Hornets, a rising football program out of the Big Sky conference in the Football Championship Subdivision, gave him a chance. He transferred on April 25, 2025 and was even named the starter.

Unfortunately, his time in the spotlight was abbreviated again. In the first game of the season vs. South Dakota State, he had just 107 yards and an interception in the 20-3 loss. Then he suffered an undisclosed injury for the rest of the season, only completing six passes for 157 yards and a touchdown the rest of the season. So, Rashada entered the transfer portal again.

It's a rapid fall from grace for the former four-star recruit. It seems like the best course of action for him to start would be heading towards the FCS level again, although he could follow former Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion to Colorado to be a backup.
