Former Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder is back in business just in time for the playoffs. The Green Bay Packers signed Ridder to their 53-man roster ahead of Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Chicago Bears.
The Packers added the former third-round pick to their practice squad last week after quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis sustained injuries. Starting quarterback Jordan Love is expected to start on Saturday, but Willis is still dealing with a right shoulder injury.

With Willis' status up in the air, it made sense for Green Bay to add another quarterback to the 53-man roster with a postseason game on the line. Ridder has never appeared in a playoff game, but he will likely be active this weekend while the Falcons are still at home.
The Falcons drafted Ridder out of Cincinnati in the third round back in 2022. After backing up Marcus Mariota for the first 13 games of his rookie season, Ridder started the final four games before going into 2023 as the team's starting quarterback.
Ridder appeared in 19 games for the Falcons (17 starts) over two seasons, passing for 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Atlanta signed quarterback Kirk Cousins and drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 NFL offseason.

This left no place for Ridder, who was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for wide receiver Rondale Moore before the 2024 season began. After bouncing around the last two years, Ridder is back in action, even if it's in a reserve role.
