Former Colorado safety has found his new home vis the transfer portal

It wasn't too surprising when breakout safety Tawfiq Byard entered the transfer portal after an impressive season in Boulder, where he led Colorado in tackles.

Byard's move paid off as he committed to Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon. The rising junior burst onto the scene with an impressive spring game after coming over from South Florida. He then showed throughout the season that he was a leader and the Buffs' best defensive player.

The hard-hitting safety finished the year with 79 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. Byard is an all-around player who can play both in the box and deep without sacrificing speed or strength.

Byard reportedly received other major offers but chose the Aggies, who are coming off a College Football Playoff appearance and are clearly capable of contending for the national title next season.

The Buffaloes might have already found Byard's replacement in New Mexico State transfer safety Naeten Mitchell, who committed to Colorado Sunday night.

Colorado, despite 30 departures, has started the two-week portal window hot, with nine commitments during the opening weekend, putting their transfer portal group firmly in the top 10 nationally at No. 7.
