Kentucky sophomore defensive back Cam Dooley committed to the Florida Gators on Wednesday.
A former four-star recruit, according to 247Sports, Dooley signed with Kentucky as a member of the 2024 class. He played under current Florida assistant Brad White and Chris Collins. As a true freshman, he saw action in all 12 games for the Wildcats, recording four tackles and a tackle for loss. However, only 31 of his 154 total snaps came on defense that season.

As a sophomore, Dooley stepped into a prominent role as part of Kentucky's defensive back rotation, starting the final three games of the season. Of his 546 total snaps, 211 came at free safety, 134 came in the box and 62 came at slot corner. That makes him a prime candidate to play the STAR position at Florida.
Pro Football Focus gave him a 69.3 overall defensive grade, a 63.6 run defense grade, a 58.0 tackling grade, a 56.8 pass-rushing grade and a 71.4 grade in coverage. Dooley allowed just 80 yards receiving and zero touchdowns in 2025. He recorded 30 total tackles (20 solo), one tackle for a loss, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
247Sports gives Dooley a three-star grade as a transfer, ranking him No. 585 overall and No. 60 among safeties in the transfer portal. On3 is more bullish on him, granting a four-star grade and ranking him No. 273 and No. 26, respectively.
Florida's safeties room
Florida returns starting free safety Bryce Thornton and has already earned a commitment from Baylor safety DJ Coleman, who is likely to compete for the starting strong safety job. As mentioned above, Dooley is a candidate to play the STAR/nickel back position.

Rising sophomores Lagonza Hayward and Drake Stubbs also return to the Gators. Florida will add JUCO safety Elijah Owens as well. Incoming freshmen Kaiden Hall and Dylan Purter signed with the program in December.
