Five local players get all-state honors from PFN

Dec. 31—The Wyoming Valley Conference and Lackawanna Conference didn't fare as well Wednesday as they did a day earlier with the release of the final Pennsylvania Football News Coaches Select All-State teams.

The WVC had one selection to the Class 6A team, while the Lackawanna Conference had four players chosen to the Class 4A team. Both conferences has no one selected to the Class 2A team.

The team was chosen from nominations submitted by over 300 high school coaches.

Wilkes-Barre Area senior running back Davon Underwood was chosen to the Class 6A second team as a slot/H-back.

Underwood led the Wolfpack in rushing during the regular season, carrying 75 times for 521 yards and eight touchdowns. He was the top receiver among all WVC backs with 19 receptions for 196 yards and two TDs.

District 2 Class 4A champion North Pocono had three players selected.

Junior defensive back Cole West and senior linebacker Evan Wolff were selected to the Class 4A first team. Senior tackle Cole Zimmerman was chosen to the second team. All three were also all-state selections to the Pennsylvania Football Writers team.

Honesdale junior fullback Gabe Duda was chosen to the Class 4A second team.

On Tuesday, the two conferences combined for 14 all-state selections in Class A, 3A and 5A.
