Everything Micah Shrewsberry, ACC had to say after referee incident

Emotions got the best of Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry after a frustrating finish to Friday's loss to California. Shrewsberry charged at a referee in response to what he deemed a mishandling of a pivotal foul call, and the ACC has reprimanded him for the incident.

Here's what the ACC had to say regarding Shrewsberry:

"Shrewsberry aggressively confronted a member of the officiating crew following the game," the ACC's statement read. "The unsportsmanlike behavior that was displayed is unacceptable and tarnishes the on-court play between these institutions. The ACC considers this matter closed and will have no further comment."

The play that started all this drama came with less than 10 seconds to go and Notre Dame leading, 71-68. Shrewsberry instructed his team to foul before California could hoist a game-tying 3-point shot. However, Dai Dai Ames found just enough space on the wing and got an attempt off, converting it plus a foul for a four-point play.

If only it was that simple. The officials reversed the basket, drawing outrage from the Cal bench, then reversed it again in a baffling turn of events.

Shrewsberry issued a statement prior to the ACC's reprimand, apologizing for his actions and declining to share his thoughts on the officiating.

"I want to apologize for what took place immediately after the Cal game last night," Shrewsberry said. "My actions were inappropriate and not symbolic of the leader I strive to be and what Notre Dame expects of its coaches and educators. I will learn from this lack of judgement and be better in the future. I want to apologize to our team, our University and its leaders, to Coach Madsen and his team, and to the ACC, as my actions were unacceptable."

While charging at an official is never OK, it's hard to blame Shrewsberry for being upset over how the game ended.
