Emery on Onana's fitness, Elliott decision and new signing Alysson

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Nottingham Forest at Villa Park (12:30 GMT).

  • Emery confirmed Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, Harvey Elliott, Evann Guessand and new signing Alysson are all unavailable for the visit of Forest.

  • On timelines for returns, he added: "When they are expected to come back with the team, I don't know. Onana got injured on Tuesday; Pau got injured one month ago. Pau may be out for one or two weeks, and Mings as well. Onana, more."

  • Emery said Villa decided "two months ago" not to permanently sign on-loan Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott: "I am respecting him all we can because he's a very good professional, very respectful. The problem we have with Harvey is this year he is on loan and if he is playing matches, we must buy him. We decided two months ago we are not convinced to sign him, spending the money we need."

  • More on Elliott: "This is the issue. But he is training every day, very good with us to help us in training. Of course, it is not good for him or good for us, but it is football and sometimes we must take decisions that are not good for us. After it, if he is leaving, we can maybe try to use the position he is [in] to let us work something [in the market]. Until now, we only signed Alysson because we believe in his potential."

  • On 19-year-old Brazilian winger Alysson, who has joined from Gremio: "As a winger, he has good dribbling [skills]. He plays usually on the right side and physically and defensively does good work. He can defend, he can attack and he is intense. He is young so the adapting first is in training and then progressing hopefully in the Premier League with the demands we have."

  • On managing his squad during a busy period: "[Because of] this demand, of course it increases the risk for injured players. We must be ready with the players we have. Now we have some injured players - some are close to coming back but still a lot of players are not available for tomorrow. But, we still have enough players to compete."
