Dabo Swinney lands Auburn transfer 4-star CB Donovan Starr, per report

CLEMSON — Clemson football and Dabo Swinney landed its second transfer portal cornerback with the addition of Auburn's Donovan Starr on Jan. 6, according to CBS Sports.

Starr, 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, played in nine games on special teams and defense this season. Still, he is the No. 25 cornerback in the portal, per 247Sports.

He is also a former four-star recruit out of high school who was rated as the No. 3 player in Tennessee and No. 199 nationally in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite. Starr has three years of eligibility remaining.

He is Clemson's fourth portal addition this cycle, which broke Clemson's previous record for the most transfer players taken in a season, which the Tigers set last year with three.

Starr, who is from Bloomington, Illinois, is joining cornerback Elliot Washington II, linebacker Luke Ferrelli and safety Jerome Carter III. Starr moved to Tennessee in high school, playing at Ravenwood High in the Nashville area.

With cornerback Avieon Terrell departing for the 2026 NFL Draft, there is a starting position open opposite of Ashton Hampton.

Starr, who rarely played this season, will have the chance to compete to be a Day 1 starter with Washington, Branden Strozier, Corian Gipson and freshman signees Shavar Young Jr. and Marcell Gipson.
