ESPN's Todd Archer has reported that the Dallas Cowboys are releasing cornerback Trevon Diggs.

Archer stated via (X), "The Cowboys have released cornerback Trevon Diggs. He will go through the waiver process, and if unclaimed, he will become a free agent."

The timing was off-putting for Diggs' release with the Cowboys having another game to play. Still, the thinking was that it would give the Cowboys time to re-evaluate their roster, and Diggs could become a free agent and be picked up by a team looking to make a run in the postseason. The move, however, comes as a bit of a shock to Cowboys Nation.

In 2021. Diggs led the Cowboys with 11 interceptions, and in 2023, the team extended his contract. Since then, Diggs has proven injury-prone, which has led the Cowboys to believe a departure was imminent. As for Diggs landing on a playoff team this postseason, his brother (Stefon Diggs) is currently Super Bowl-bound with the New England Patriots, should they wish to bring him in.

If Diggs does clear waivers, Dallas will be on the hook for just over $12 million of dead money.
