The Cowboys defense has already taken its first L of the post-Eberflus era, even though the organization has yet to conduct a single interview for the former coordinator's successor.
Not that they didn't try.

The Cowboys have been denied permission to interview Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich for the same position in Dallas. The news was first reported Thursday evening by ESPN's Todd Archer.
Ulbrich remains under contract with the club despite the firing of head coach Raheem Morris earlier this week. Morris's dismissal followed an 8-9 finish in Ulbrich's first year on the job. Falcons owner Arthur Blank has said that the team would recommend Ulbrich to stay on once a head coach is chosen, but the final decision would belong to the new hire.
The 48-year-old Ulbrich is on his second stint in Atlanta; he served three different roles with the Falcons defensive coaching staff from 2015 through 2020. Ulbrich was named the Jets' DC for the 2021 season, and he then took over as interim head coach after Robert Saleh was fired midway through the 2024 season. Under Ulbrich's temporary command, the Jets went 3-9.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said that the selection of a new defensive coordinator in Dallas will be a group decision with input from team EVP Stephen Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He also explained that the new DC would not be required to have had previous experience as a head coach or coordinator.
Ulbrich has both and is considered a top coordinator in league circles. If the Falcons' new head coach wants to go in a different direction, Ulbrich could still find himself on the market and maybe yet in the mix for an interview with the Cowboys.
But for now, the losing continues for Dallas's D.
