Cowboys' NFL Draft Position Revealed After Week 18 Loss

1 week ago 2

For most, the one shining light for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 season is that the franchise will have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

One is their own, and the other is a pick acquired in the Micah Parsons trade.

With Dallas' 34-17 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium to close the regular season, the Cowboys' first draft selection hinged on the outcome of the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots game.

With the Patriots' curb-stomping of the Dolphins, Dallas' first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft has been confirmed.

Dallas will pick at No. 12.

Defense is the obvious choice for the first couple of rounds, given how many holes need plugging in coordinator Matt Eberflus' defense.

Corner, linebacker, pass rusher, and safety are all big needs for the Cowboys, and they have the draft capital and the cap space (yes, they really do) to make some nice additions to their defense.

No one expected the Cowboys to be as bad on defense as they were, and yes, the trade of Micah Parsons the week before the season started was a hammer blow, but still, it's been bad.

But the constant miscommunication, missed tackles, and just downright bad play have plagued Dallas all season.

With two first-round picks, exactly where Dallas goes with those selections is going to be interesting.

At No. 12, most of the draft board will likely still be available as a couple of teams are quarterback-needy.

It is worth noting that Dallas has had historic success in this slot. The Cowboys picked at No. 12 last year and landed Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker. In 2021, the Cowboys used the No. 12 pick to take Penn State's Parsons. And in 1991, that same slot netted them Tennessee receiver Alvin Harper.

This time around?

Ohio State's Caleb Downs is one player who Cowboys Nation is desperate to get with the defensive back making waves for the Buckeyes this season.

Dallas' total picks?

No. 12 (first round)

TBD (first round via Green Bay)

No. 113 (fourth round)

No. 151 (fifth round)

No. 221 (seventh round via New York Giants)

No. 226 (seventh round via Kansas City)

And the draft order leading up to their slot?

1. Las Vegas Raiders

2. New York Jets

3. Arizona Cardinals

4. Tennessee Titans

5. New York Giants

6. Washington Commanders

7. Cleveland Browns

8. New Orleans Saints

9. Kansas City Chiefs

10. Cincinnati Bengals

11. Miami Dolphins

12. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys won't have to address the offense if George Pickens and Javonte Williams are re-signed, which means it will/should be a defensive-heavy first couple of rounds in the draft for Dallas.

Pick No. 12, folks.
