Power rankings (week of Dec. 29-Jan. 3)

1. Seymour (8-0)

Defeated Appleton East by 21 and Shawano by 29. The Thunder is beating opponents by an average of 20.9 points and is one of two undefeated local boys basketball teams remaining.

Seymour entered the week tied with Fox Valley Lutheran for first in the Bay Conference at 4-0. The teams meet at Seymour on Jan. 9.

2. West De Pere (6-1)

The Phantoms have only been part of the Fox River Classic for a couple of months after moving from the Bay, but they already have one of the biggest league wins in years after beating De Pere 66-64 to end the Redbirds’ 61-game conference winning streak.

West De Pere entered the week in a five-way tie for first in the 10-team conference.

3. De Pere (6-1)

It had to end at some point.

The Redbirds’ loss to West De Pere was their first in league play since Bay Port beat them in February 2022. It’s a remarkable run that might not be approached anytime soon considering the previous record had been the 31 straight De Pere won until a loss in January 2013.

The good news for De Pere is that it still has a chance to win a fifth straight conference championship.

A rematch against the Phantoms takes place Jan. 20.

Bay Port's Sawyer Durkee scored a team-high 14 points to help the Pirates beat Pulaski last week.

4. Bay Port (7-1)

The Pirates won their only game last week, a 59-51 victory over Pulaski. They jumped out to a huge lead but had to hold off the Red Raiders by the end.

The teams have split the season series each of the last two seasons. The next meeting takes place Jan. 20 at Pulaski.

5. Kewaunee (7-0)

The Storm beat Howards Grove 73-70, the second time in three games and the third time in its first seven that it has won by six or fewer points.

The 70 points were the most permitted by Kewaunee this season. It entered the week allowing 52.6 points a contest and beating teams by almost 21 per game.

6. Crivitz (6-2)

The Wolverines crushed Oconto 83-49 at the Shawano Hoops Holiday Classic to win their sixth straight after starting the season with losses to Marinette and Peshtigo.

Crivitz started the week as the only undefeated team left in Marinette & Oconto Conference play and one of just two squads in the nine-team league with a winning overall record.

7. Green Bay Notre Dame (5-3)

The Tritons climbed above .500 for the first time this season with a 3-0 week, beating Appleton Xavier at the Rick Majerus/WBY Shootout and defeating both Ashwaubenon and Madison Edgewood by at least 20 points.

They topped the 80-point mark in all three contests, the first time they scored 80 or more points in three consecutive games since the end of the 2023-24 season.

Last week’s ranking: 7.

8. Algoma (7-1)

Had a big nonconference win over Denmark, beating the Vikings 62-51 to extend their season-high winning streak to five games.

Only a three-point loss at Peshtigo on Dec. 9 has kept the Wolves from a perfect start.

Last week’s ranking: 10.

9. Pulaski (5-4)

The Red Raiders had a rough week with back-to-back losses against Hortonville and Bay Port, and it has a difficult matchup at Green Bay Notre Dame on Jan. 9.

Pulaski is only a game behind the top spot in the FRCC, although that spot is held by five teams.

Green Bay Preble (6-4)

The Hornets are on track for double-digit victories for the second straight season after going the previous five years with seven or fewer wins, but the next 10 days will be difficult.

Preble plays most of the top teams in the FRCC between now and Jan. 16, including West De Pere, De Pere and Bay Port.

Players of the week

Abrian Allen, Green Bay East

The freshman guard-forward had a memorable game in a loss to Appleton Xavier, finishing with a triple-double.

Allen had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 37 minutes.

He ranks second on the Red Devils in scoring (13.1 ppg) and first in both rebounding (7.9 rpg) and assists (3.4 apg).

Jack Bookter, De Pere

The senior guard helped the Redbirds to a 2-1 week.

He had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals in an 84-81 win over Milwaukee Academy of Science, 12 points and 4 assists in a 59-56 win over Neenah and 20 points in the loss to West De Pere.

Bookter is tied for second in the FRCC in assists with 4 per game.

Cooper Borowicz, West De Pere

The junior guard helped end De Pere’s FRCC winning streak, scoring a career-high 18 points.

Connor Eastman, Marinette

The sophomore had 29 points and hit five 3-pointers in a 63-50 win over Sevastopol.

Isaiah Faulkner, Providence Academy

The sophomore point guard scored 34 points and hit six 3-pointers to help the Paladins beat Gillett.

Connor Kilgore, Kewaunee

Kept the Storm perfect this season in a win over Howards Grove. The senior had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Tatem Klaubauf, Luxemburg-Casco

The junior guard helped the Spartans go 2-0. He had 6 points, 4 assists and 4 steals against Southwest and 14 points, 7 rebounds and 9 steals against Southern Door.

He leads the North Eastern Conference with 3.2 steals per game.

Parker Lischka, Algoma

The Wolves’ all-time leading scorer had a game-high 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals in a win over Denmark, shooting 10-for-16.

Kyler Marks, Seymour

The senior star is perhaps the biggest reason the Thunder is one of the top Division 3 teams in the state.

He had 32 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals against Appleton West and 31 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals against Shawano.

The most impressive part about his numbers might be that he shot a combined 27-for-33 in the two games.

Marks leads the Bay with 24.6 points per game and is shooting a league-high 63.3%.

Alston Metoxen, Green Bay West

The senior was a bright spot in a 0-2 week for the Wildcats. He had 21 points, 4 assists and shot 9-for-13 at Menominee.

Metoxen followed with 23 points and shot 7-for-15 at New London.

Jackson Nordin, Shawano

The junior had two double-doubles, with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Green Bay Southwest and 22 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Oconto Falls that helped get Shawano to the .500 mark at 4-4.
