Commanders rule out two stars for Week 18 at Eagles

There's just one game left in the NFL's 2025 regular season, and the Washington Commanders cannot wait for this debacle to end so they can start over in 2026.

After losing Jayden Daniels several times this season, the Commanders opted to shut him down and have Marcus Mariota remain the starting quarterback through the season's end. Unfortunately, Mariota was injured against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16, and Josh Johnson took over. Johnson started Week 17, and now it seems that he will start again as Mariota has been ruled out for this week's game in Philadelphia.

Mariota left in the third quarter of the Commanders' game against the Eagles with a hand injury. He was also evaluated for a concussion, but was cleared from protocol, and he has a quad injury. The hand injury required stitches, and it's likely the Commanders simply don't want to take any chances with their backup in a season that's already lost.

Along with Mariota, left tackle Laremy Tunsil has been ruled out for this game with an oblique injury. He left the Commanders' Week 15 matchup against the New York Giants in the first half, and although he tried to return, he was taken off the field with an oblique injury. Tunsil was unable to suit up against the Eagles in Week 16, and he missed Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Commanders have suffered a plethora of injuries this season, so it makes sense that they won't risk players they deem essential to winning. Tunsil and Mariota both fit that bill, so they'll be on the sideline in the final week of the season.
