The Jacksonville Jaguars are securing their future early.

The club and offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen have agreed to terms on a contract extension, a source told the Times-Union Friday night. Van Lanen has turned into a key player for the Jaguars, displaying positional flexibility across the offensive line.

The deal, according to NFL Media, is for three years, $51 million with $32.5 million guaranteed.

Van Lanen took over the starting left tackle position after starting games at right tackle, right guard and left guard this season. He's also the team's emergency center if Robert Hainsey and Jonah Monheim are unable to play.

"No matter what it takes to see the field, I'll do whatever it takes for this team," Van Lanen said of his ability to have position flexibility earlier this year. "If that's inside, outside, whatever that takes."

He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He spent his rookie season on Green Bay's practice squad before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.

Van Lanen was mostly used as a reserve lineman during his early stint with the Jaguars. He appeared in 34 games during his first three seasons with the club, but only logged three starts.
