The Kansas City Chiefs' offseason changes began early with the departure of a coaching staff member.
The University of Michigan announced over the weekend that Chiefs assistant defensive line coach Alex Whittingham will join the staff as a linebackers coach. He is the son of new head coach Kyle Whittingham as the program turns the page on a new era.
Whittingham played a significant role with each unit on the defensive side of the ball during his tenure in Kansas City. In eight years with the Chiefs, he was a part of five teams that reached the Super Bowl, including the organization's LIV, LVII, and LVIII titles.

The Chiefs were top-10 in points against in six of Whittingham's eight years on staff as an assistant or serving various other roles under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Kansas City had a top-six mark in each of its final three seasons, which included notable work with top players Frank Clark, Chris Jones, Nick Bolton, Dee Ford, Willie Gay, Justin Houston, Drue Tranquill, and Trent McDuffie.
Whittingham played college football at Utah from 2013 to 2017, where he played under his father. He returns to the college ranks as a coach to support his father's new head-coaching role at Michigan.
