As the New York Giants prepare for their final game of the 2025 season, interim defensive coordinator Charlie Bullen reflected on his unexpected promotion following Shane Bowen's midseason firing.
Initial skepticism surrounded the move -- many questioned whether the long-time position coach could effectively lead a struggling unit or if the job should have gone to someone else -- but the defense has shown marked improvement under his guidance, playing what Bullen calls "a pretty good brand of football" in recent weeks.

During this Thursday press conference, Bullen downplayed any need to prove himself to the league.
"I'm really not that concerned about that," he said. "It's just been a great honor and privilege for me to even be in this position and the way it came about, of course. So, I've just enjoyed having the opportunity to work with the players and coaches to make this as best as we can and try to win games.
"That's where my focus is at right now. I tell the players, all that stuff takes care of itself. Just work hard, compete, do your best to win and improve, and that stuff takes care of itself, so that's really not on my mind at all right now."
Bullen admitted to feeling significantly more comfortable in the role now than in his first games.

"I do. I do for sure. Yeah, yeah, no doubt," he said.
With his player-focused mindset and emphasis on process, Bullen remains steadfastly committed to the task at hand, letting performance speak for itself. Where he goes from here remains to be seen.
