Egypt start with intent

Egypt set the tone early pushing Trezeguet high on the left and looking for quick deliveries into the box. Inside the opening minutes, Trezeguet flashed dangerous cross across goal forcing Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to intervene.

There was even unusual stoppage when the corner flag was damaged after challenge involving Emam Ashour, briefly disrupting the rhythm.

Salah the main outlet, Nwabali stands firm

As the half developed, Egypt repeatedly tried to free Mohamed Salah behind the line. A long ball from Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed almost released the captain but Nwabali read it and cleaned up.

Egypt’s best spell came through direct combinations on the right. Salah slid a low ball into the area and again Nigeria survived before the biggest chance arrived on 27 minute.. Mohamed Hany picked out Salah who met it from close range but Egypt could not turn it into the opener, with Nwabali and the Nigerian defence scrambling to safety.

Nigeria’s disallowed moment and late bookings

Nigeria offered less in sustained attacking phases but they did register first half moment of celebration that didn’t count. A goal was ruled out after VAR review, with the referee judging foul by Paul Onuachu who was then booked.

The half ended with more edge, Moses Simon also went into the book after foul on Salah as the duel grew more physical.

With Victor Osimhen & Ademola Lookman on the bench for Nigeria, the second half is set up for tactical swing.
