CBS Sports Top 25 high on Iowa basketball ahead of Big Ten play

5 days ago 2

The schedule is about to pick up for the Iowa Hawkeyes, with the intensity ratcheting up quite a bit as they start the gauntlet of Big Ten play. Sitting at 12-2, the Hawkeyes have looked very strong up to this point, but the test of how good they can be is about to begin.

That said, Iowa has largely looked strong against the teams that have been on the schedule and looked the part of a ranked Big Ten team. With a strong home win over UCLA, the Hawkeyes climbed in the recent AP Top 25 and USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The same sentiment continues for the Hawkeyes in the newest CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 Rankings, where they are sitting at No. 17 in the nation.

Next up for Ben McCollum and his Hawkeyes is a trip north to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Big Ten action. Iowa enters the matchup favored, but a Big Ten road game is never a guarantee. That matchup is set to air on the Big Ten Network.

Should Iowa be able to take care of business against Minnesota, they will set up a top-20 matchup at home against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday in a game that could go a long way to proving the Hawkeyes are for real. That game is set for 11 a.m. CT and will air on FOX.
