The race is heating up for the four coveted spots reserved for the best third-placed teams, which grant access to the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025).

After the third and final matchdays of groups A and B, the provisional ranking of the best third-placed teams is as follows:

Mozambique (Group F): 2 matches, 1 win, 1 loss, 3 goals scored, 3 conceded, goal difference 0, 3 points

Benin (Group D): 2 matches, 1 win, 1 loss, 1 goal scored, 1 conceded, goal difference 0, 3 points.

Sudan (Group E): 2 matches, 1 win, 1 loss, 1 goal scored, 3 conceded, goal difference -2, 3 points.

Angola (Group B): 3 matches, 2 draws, 1 loss, 2 goals scored, 3 conceded, goal difference -1, 2 points.

Comoros (Group A): 3 matches, 2 draws, 1 loss, 0 goals scored, 2 conceded, goal difference -2, 2 points.

Tanzania (Group C): 2 matches, 1 draw, 1 loss, 2 goals scored, 3 conceded, goal difference -1, 1 point.

Everything will become clearer this Tuesday, December 30, at the end of the third matchday in groups C and D, before the lucky qualifiers are revealed on Wednesday, December 30, following the final matchday in groups E and F.

To recap, six nations have already booked their places in the Round of 16, which kicks off on Saturday, January 3, 2026: Morocco, Mali, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, and Algeria.
