LOS ANGELES — The California Post, the West Coast sister publication of the New York Post, will officially launch Jan. 26, operating out of a newsroom on the Fox Lot in Century City and publishing seven days a week in both digital and print formats.
Despite its statewide branding, the newspaper’s initial sports coverage will be centered squarely on Los Angeles, with a primary emphasis on the Dodgers and the Lakers.

The California Post has assembled a veteran basketball and baseball staff for its launch. The outlet has hired longtime Los Angeles Times sports columnist Dylan Hernandez and Times Dodgers beat writer Jack Harris to lead its baseball coverage, while Southern California News Group Lakers beat writer Khobi Price and longtime Lakers reporter Melissa Rohlin will anchor its NBA coverage.
The Post’s sports section will be led by Ryan Kostecka, a 2017 University of Oregon graduate who served as sports editor at the Minnesota Star Tribune from July 2024 until December 2025. The role marks his first job in Southern California.
Before his tenure in Minneapolis, Kostecka built a varied résumé that included three years as a digital content writer for the Utah Jazz, six months as a sports director at Park City Television, four years producing team-site coverage for the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes through Sports Illustrated’s On SI network, and one year at the Park Record newspaper in Park City, Utah.
Edward Lewis, formerly a senior producer for TMZ Sports, is also joining the California Post as a senior sports reporter, adding a national multimedia voice to the section’s launch roster.

According to sources familiar with the outlet’s hiring strategy, the California Post remains in active talks with additional Los Angeles Times and Southern California News Group staffers about making the jump before the tabloid officially launches.
