Browns owner Jimmy Haslam makes interesting comment about Jim Schwartz

4 days ago 2

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam spoke to the media Monday just hours after the firing of the team's head coach, Kevin Stefanski. There were a lot of the same quotes you always hear in one of these press conferences, but there was one statement that was made that raises some eyebrows and makes you wonder about the team's head coaching search.

Haslam said that he absolutely wants to keep defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz with the team going forward. So that raises some questions, like, is the team going to promote Schwartz to be the next head coach? Which would be a terrible idea. Schwartz is a sound defensive mind, but as we saw in Detroit when he was the head coach with a 29-52 record, he is best as just a coordinator.

The other question/concern is: which head coaching candidate will be willing to take the job if they don't get to choose their defensive coordinator? Now, maybe there are good candidates out there who like Schwartz, but if you limit the pool because of an assistant, you could end up needing to make another coaching change in just a couple of years.
