Bo Bichette Sets Massive Price; Talks Intensifying With 2 Teams

For anyone who thought that Bo Bichette might take a shorter-term contract in free agency—think again. Insider Jon Heyman is reporting that the much-sought-after free agent is looking for a massive $300 million deal. While it seems highly unlikely he’ll get that from anyone, it sounds like two teams are intensifying talks with the infield All-Star.

While his longtime team, the Toronto Blue Jays, continue their flirtation with top free agent Kyle Tucker, Bichette is now getting seriously wooed by both the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.

Phillies to meet with Bichette in the coming days

A report from Philadelphia Phillies beat writer Matt Gelb reveals that the Phils will be meeting with Bichette in the next few days, likely on Monday.

Gelb reports that the team has done “extensive work on the various roster ripple effects of signing him.

“The club’s interest in Bichette is legitimate, and if it results in a deal, it would likely require the team to move on from roster mainstays J.T. Realmuto and Alec Bohm.”

Bohm, the Phillies third baseman, just agreed Thursday to a $10.2 million contract for 2026. A trade of Bohm may be necessitated by a Bichette signing, both to free up his money, and to open up a spot in the infield.

Realmuto’s return to Philly in free agency is somewhat in doubt. He’s been a two-time All-Star and a two-time Gold Glover behind the plate for the Phillies over the past seven years.

Yankees’ free agent focus, other than on Bellinger, is on Bichette

As for the Yankees, the Jays’ heated division rival is looking a lot more closely at Bichette as well. This comes as their talks with their own free agent Cody Bellinger have stagnated.

Heyman calls it an “interesting development” as the Yanks are now taking a closer look at Bichette due to the fact that there’s still “a bit of a gap” in their negotiations with Bellinger. The Yankees made a second offer to Belli in recent days. The two sides, however, remain apart.

The insider also reiterates that New York is listening to trade offers on second baseman Jazz Chisholm, which would open up a spot for Bichette. The lifetime shortstop played second during the World Series for Toronto.
