Bills' James Cook wins 2025 NFL rushing title under wild circumstance

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook won the NFL's 2025 rushing title but it was some ride in the end.

And it had little to do with the Bills (12-5) 38-5 win over the New York Jets (3-14) on Sunday, when Cook only had 15 rushing yards added to his yearly total.

Instead, it got interesting in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens in a 26-24 final in Week 18 to win the AFC North. As that one unfolded early, it looked as if Cook might miss out.

Cook won the title with 1,621 yards. Ravens running back Derrick Henry ended up finishing second with 1,595 yards of his own.

Against the Steelers, Henry had 126 on the ground and it appeared he would pass Cook with the way he was eating up yards with ease early on. Henry even began the contest with 47-yard carry on the first snap of the game.

Instead, that did not continue. Henry got close, but what changed?

Here's what... everything in the second half:

Along with his yards, Cook added 12 rushing touchdowns in 2025.

"It means a lot. Just something nobody in my family has done, just nothing somebody has done here [with the Bills] in a long time. So, it'd be special," Cook said. "As a running back, that's everybody's goal just to win the rushing title."

With his rushing crown, Cook is the first Bills player to win the honor since OJ Simpson put up 1,503 yards in 1976. Simpson's legendary 2,003 yards in 14 games took place in 1973.
