Bengals’ Zac Taylor ‘appears’ safe via support from Burrow, Chase

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor might not have even the slightest warmth in his seat heading into the offseason.

Despite missing the playoffs for the third straight year, a new report says that endorsements from the likes of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have played a part in how the front office views the franchise’s outlook.

The report comes from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini ahead of the season finale in Week 18:

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been a consistent voice of support for coach Zac Taylor within the organization, as have receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Cincinnati ownership has made it clear they value Burrow’s perspective, and they’ve listened in the past. Despite a 6-10 season marred by a significant toe injury to Burrow, Taylor appears to be safe.”

This isn’t a what else would they say? sort of thing after players support their coaches in public, either.

If it’s really happening behind closed doors, a united front in Cincinnati truly leans on the idea that the Burrow injury and a year of sorely needed development for a young defense were the big culprits of the team’s failures this year.

Still, Burrow has publicly lobbied for “change” in recent weeks, seemingly lobbying the Bengals to do new things. Whether that’s spending, bringing on outside voices or something else is hard to say, but it doesn’t include, it seems, moving on from the current coaching staff.
