Bears QB Caleb Williams sounds off on pursuit of 4,000 passing yards

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a Week 18 showdown against the Detroit Lions, where quarterback Caleb Williams has a chance to make history once again.

Williams is just 109 passing yards away from breaking the single-season franchise passing record (set by Erik Kramer in 1995). But he can also do something no Bears quarterback has ever accomplished: Throw for 4,000 yards in a single season.

Earlier this week, Williams wouldn't put too much focus on the history in front of him, instead pushing his focus to winning the regular season finale against the Lions. Williams said that he believes he was brought to Chicago to make history like this, but the playoffs is his most important focus.

"It'd be cool just in the sense of there’s never been one here," Williams said. "I think I was brought here for those types of things and these type of moments – things that haven't been done here to try and be able to accomplish. Like I've said before, the self-goals and all of that always gets swept under when you go for the team goals. That's winning ball games. That's first and foremost in my mind. That's first and foremost for this team. The most important thing is winning ball games and heading into the playoffs with some momentum and some good energy heading into the playoffs."

The focus on the playoffs is great to hear, but Williams has an opportunity to make history that the Bears fanbase has been begging for, for at least the past 50 years. One of the NFL's most historic franchises is without one of the marquee records, and while they shouldn't force the offense into chasing history, if it is there for the taking, Ben Johnson and Williams will more than likely bask in the fun of going for it all.
