Bayern Munich women's team goalkeeper Mala Grohs has said she can never rule out that her cancer will return but that she would be able to deal with it.
Grohs, 24, was diagnosed with a malign tumour in her tonsils and underwent surgery in December 2024. She returned to training the following month and played her first match in March 2025, in the Champions League against Olympique Lyon.

Grohs told Bayern's member magazine 51 in an interview published on Wednesday that she now has respect but no fear for the illness.
"I do go to my follow-up appointments feeling a certain amount of tension. But every time everything is fine, I feel more confident," she said.
"I think this respect is just part of the whole process. And I also know that if the cancer does come back, I will be able to cope with it."
Grohs has been very open about the cancer throughout and does also not hide the long scar on her neck from the operation. She said she is also doing this to encourage others who may be in a similar situation.

"I don't feel at all that I need to hide my scar and my story. No one who has been through something like this needs to be ashamed of it," she said.
"The scar doesn't bother me at all; sometimes I even forget it's there.
"I show it because it has a message: take care of yourselves! And: you don't have to hide anything just because it's not perfect."
