Arizona Cardinals down to 13 players on the practice squad

1 week ago 2

The Arizona Cardinals' practice squad is a little smaller after some transactions on Thursday. Heading into their final practice of the season, the practice squad only has 13 players.

The Cardinals have been up against the limit of players they can carry on their team. In addition the 53-man roster, there is a 90-player (91 for an international exemption on the practice squad) limit teams can carry combined between the active roster, the practice squad and reserve lists.

Already at 91 total players on Wednesday with the 53-man roster, 24 players combined on injured reserve and the non-football injury reserve and 14 on the practice squad (using the international exemption), they acquired linebacker Austin Keys with a waiver claim. He was added to the 53-man roster immediately. Safety Kitan Crawford was placed on injured reserve, meaning someone else had to be cut.

They released offensive lineman Tyler Cooper. Because Cooper was on the practice squad on Tuesday, he will still get paid for the full week.

The Cardinals are still at capacity with 53 players on the active roster, 25 players on IR/NFI and 13 on the practice squad.
