The college football calendar has flipped to 2026. And Alabama football has some roster building to do.
Starting Friday, Jan. 2, one single two-week NCAA transfer portal window opened up during which Division I players have been able to enter their names into an online database to make them eligible to move to another college football program.

The portal window is open until Friday, Jan. 16. Teams that play in the CFP National Championship Game will have a five-day portal period from Jan. 20-24.

Alabama loses backup DL to NCAA transfer portal
After one season with Alabama football, Kelby Collins is back in the transfer portal, per On3.

After transferring from Florida to the Crimson Tide for 2025, Collins played in 14 games, but played 149 total snaps, per Pro Football Focus. He did not exceed 19 snaps in a game. He finished with 12 tackles, three tackles-for-loss and two sacks.
Alabama adds Michigan OL via transfer portal
With multiple spots to fill up front for 2026, the Crimson Tide added Michigan offensive line transfer Kaden Strayhorn, who just finished his freshman season with the Wolverines.
Alabama adds Virginia Tech LB via NCAA transfer portal
Alabama has made another NCAA transfer portal addition, adding Virginia Tech linebacker Caleb Woodson ahead of his final season of eligibility.

In three seasons at Virginia Tech in the Hokies' Star linebacker position, Woodson had 152 tackles, 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 210 sacks. He's added one interception and three pass deflections.
Former Alabama center Joseph Ionata to transfer to Georgia Tech
Joseph Ionata is heading to Georgia Tech, the former Alabama center confirmed on social media Tuesday, Jan. 6. Ionata is the second Crimson Tide player to transfer to the Yellow Jackets, joining former Alabama wide receiver and defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe.
Alabama RB walk-on to enter NCAA transfer portal
Jessie Washington III, an Alabama walk-on running back, announced he will enter the NCAA transfer portal with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Alabama DL James Smith to enter NCAA transfer portal
James Smith, a junior defensive lineman out of Montgomery, is electing to enter the transfer portal with one season of eligibility remaining, per 247Sports.
In three seasons, Smith had 50 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks. Smith had a career year in 2025, recording a career-high 28 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks.
Alabama adds major RB via NCAA transfer portal
Former NC State running back Hollywood Smothers is the Crimson Tide's second NCAA transfer portal addition of the 2026 cycle. Smothers committed to Alabama after a weekend visit in Tuscaloosa Sunday, Jan. 4, he confirmed on Instagram.

Alabama long snapper to enter NCAA transfer portal
Alabama long snapper David Bird entered the NCAA transfer portal, per 247Sports. Bird missed only Alabama's game against Eastern Illinois, but handled snapping duties in every other game.
Qua Russaw to enter NCAA transfer portal
Qua Russaw, a former four-star in the 2023 recruiting class, is entering the NCAA transfer portal, per 247Sports.
In two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Russaw recorded 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss , two sacks and two interceptions. Russaw began the 2025 season as the Crimson Tide's starting Wolf outside linebacker. A foot injury early in Alabama's road win against Georgia kept Russaw out for six games.

Rico Scott leaves NCAA transfer portal, returns to Alabama
Alabama has gained a wide receiver back from the NCAA transfer portal. According to reports, Rico Scott is expected to return to the Crimson Tide after entering the transfer portal Jan. 4.
Jaylen Mbakwe commits to Georgia Tech
Jaylen Mbakwe has found his next home. The former Alabama defensive back and wide receiver committed to Georgia Tech Monday, Jan. 5, per 247Sports, after two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Alabama DB enters NCAA transfer portal
Cam Calhoun is back in the NCAA transfer portal.
After two seasons at Michigan and Utah, respectively, Calhoun is looking for his fourth team in four years, telling On3 that he would enter the transfer portal after one season at Alabama.

Another Alabama WR enters the NCAA transfer portal
Rico Scott told On3 that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons with the Crimson Tide, and with three seasons left of eligibility.
Scott, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has 16 catches for 158 yards and three touchdowns across two seasons for the Crimson Tide.
Former Alabama 5-star to enter NCAA transfer portal
Keon Keeley, a 2023 five-star defensive lineman out of Tampa, Florida, told ESPN that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Working with the wolf outside linebacker room as a freshman in 2023, Keeley moved to the defensive line in 2024 and 2025, combining for 19 tackles, three tackles-for-loss and three sacks. Keeley played a career high 167 snaps across 12 games in 2025, per Pro Football Focus.

Alabama loses OL starter to NCAA transfer portal
Wilkin Formby, who has played more than 1,000 snaps over the past two seasons for the Crimson Tide, announced that he would enter the transfer portal. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Formby spilt time at right tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2024, and started 2025 as the Crimson Tide's starter. Michael Carroll began to split time with Formby throughout the 2025 season. Formby later moved inside to right guard next to Carroll and center Parker Brailsford.
Alabama WR, returner to enter NCAA transfer portal
Cole Adams told On3 that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal after three seasons with the Crimson Tide, and with two years of eligibility remaining.

Adams, had limited production as a slot receiver, bringing in 13 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown across three seasons. Most of Adams' production came as a returner. He returned 19 punts in 2025 for 156 yards, averaging 8.2 yards per return.
Freshman OL to leave Alabama football through NCAA transfer portal
Micah DeBose is heading to the NCAA transfer portal after one redshirt season at Alabama, per On3. DeBose, a former four-star recruit out of Mobile, played four snaps against Eastern Illinois. He has four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Alabama loses backup kicker to NCAA transfer portal
Peter Notaro, Alabama's freshman walk-on kicker, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per 247Sports. He hit all five of his extra point attempts in 2025.

Alabama loses first LB to NCAA transfer portal
Noah Carter became the 10th Alabama football player to enter the transfer portal. Carter's exit was reported by On3's Hayes Fawcett. The redshirt freshman appeared in three games for the Crimson Tide in 2025.
Reserve Alabama OL to enter NCAA transfer portal
Alabama football offensive lineman Olaus Alinen plans to enter the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining, he confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter. In three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Alinen has played 165 snaps, most of which has come at left guard, per Pro Football Focus.

Third-year Alabama WR to enter NCAA transfer portal
Jalen Hale told 247Sports and On3 that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility. Hale missed the entirety of the 2024 season with a severe leg injury, and was set to return as a piece behind receivers like Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams in 2025. Instead, Hale was limited to 49 snaps across four games in 2025, per Pro Football Focus. He did not have a catch.

MJ Chirgwin, an Alabama walk-on wide receiver, announced he would enter the NCAA transfer portal after four seasons with the Crimson Tide. He has one season of eligibility remaining. Chirgwin has 2 catches for 31 yards, including Keelon Russell's first touchdown pass.

Alabama backup center to enter NCAA transfer portal
Alabama backup center Joseph Ionata will enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3. Ionata has played 74 snaps across two seasons per Pro Football Focus. He appeared at center in two 2025 games: Wisconsin and Eastern Illinois.
Alabama five-star to enter NCAA transfer portal
Jaylen Mbakwe, who joined the Crimson Tide as a five-star cornerback in the 2024 class, told On3 he will enter the transfer portal after two seasons at Alabama. Mbakwe moved to wide receiver for the 2025 season. He played 31 snaps across four games, peaking at 19 snaps against Eastern Illinois. Mbakwe finished 2025 with three catches for 55 yards and one rush for 4 yards.

Alabama football loses backup RB to NCAA transfer portal
Richard Young will enter the transfer portal, per multiple reports, after three seasons in the Crimson Tide's running back room.
Young finished with 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in 2025. He had the fourth-most carries of any Alabama back in 2024 behind Miller, Daniel Hill and Kevin Riley.
Reserve offensive lineman to enter NCAA transfer portal
Reserve offensive lineman Roq Montgomery's agency, Ethos Sports Group, told 247sports.com that the third-year sophomore from Anniston intends to enter the transfer portal.

Alabama football backup safety to enter NCAA transfer portal
Alabama backup safety Kameron Howard is the first Crimson Tide player to announce his intentions of entering the transfer portal.
In two seasons at Alabama, Howard had four tackles and 0.5 tackles-for-loss. He started in 12 games as a true freshman at Charlotte and had 38 tackles and two interceptions.
