The Georgia Bulldogs have missed out on five-star edge rusher recruit DJ Jacobs, who has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Jacobs is the nation's top recruit in the class of 2027 and is an incredible addition for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.
The Buckeyes have nine commitments in the class of 2027 and the third-best recruiting class in the country. Jacobs is Ohio State's only five-star commitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

Jacobs is the best recruit in Georgia and the No. 1 edge rusher in the junior class. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound pass rusher is coming off an extremely productive season with Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Georgia. Jacobs posted 16 sacks and 102 tackles during his 2025 high school football season.
Despite once being named the team to beat for Jacobs, Georgia failed to landed a commitment from the Blessed Trinity Catholic superstar. Jacobs committed to Ohio State over Miami, Texas A&M and Georgia.
Missing on Jacobs stings for Georgia and coach Kirby Smart. Jacobs is a disruptive defensive force his father played for Georgia from 1999-2002, so missed out on another supremely talented legacy recruit. You can't blame Jacobs for wanting to blaze his own path, but Georgia had several different recruiting advantages over the competition for this five-star.
The Bulldogs struggled with top in-state prospects during the class of 2026. Georgia landed just one top-10 in-state recruit. In-state struggles are a big reason Georgia finished with their first recruiting class outside the top five since the class of 2016.

Georgia has two commitments from top-10 Peach State recruits in the class of 2027, so Georgia is still doing okay with in-state prospects. The Dawgs have six commitments and the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation in the 2027 cycle.
