2 area wrestlers earn gold at Southmoreland Holiday Classic

ALVERTON, Pa. – Meyersdale junior Cooper Porter and United senior Josef Garshnick earn won individual wrestling titles Tuesday at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.

At 145 pounds, Garshnick pinned Indiana Land's Kayden Fogarty in 3:00 for gold.

Porter earned a 6-3 triumph in sudden victory to beat Corry Area's Lamech Albers in the 172 title bout.

Berlin Brothersvalley's Lukas Smith finished as a runner-up at 127. Berlin Brothersvalley's Carter Durst (189) and Meyersdale's Brennan Schardt (145) and Caleb Snyder (215) each finished in third place. Meyersdale's Caleb Sines (160) was fourth.

Westmont Hilltop's Connor Ward (215) and Mikey Zahurak (139) each took fifth. Ligonier Valley's Levi Foust (172) and Jake Mundorff (215) both finished sixth. United's Max McConville (215) was seventh, while Berlin Brothersvalley's Seth Kimmel (215) and Westmont Hilltop's J.D. Hill (189) each claimed eighth.

Meyersdale was the top area team by finishing in eighth place out of 30 squads with 114 points.
