The New York Yankees have not made any major moves this offseason, whether it's a trade or a free agent deal.

But the offseason can move quickly, and a new rumor is drawing up some hype for the Yankees in their next potential move this winter.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Yankees are reportedly in trade talks with the Miami Marlins over a 6'5'' right-hander who would be an incredible pickup for New York.

"With uncertainty around their starting rotation to begin the season," The Athletic duo report, "the New York Yankees are talking to the Miami Marlins about a potential trade for starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, league sources told The Athletic."

Edward Cabrera is an interesting right-handed starter who is 27 years old and under control through the 2028 MLB season.
This report from Rosenthal and Kirschner is a big one, as the Yankees, for the first time in a while, are seemingly making progress towards a big offseason move.
After not showing interest in retaining Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, and plenty of other op names sign with new teams this offseason, there was concern about what the Yankees would do this winter.

Fortunately, this update from The Athletic is a bit of good news, as Cabrera, a right-handed starter, would be an incredible pickup if the Yankees can make a deal work.

He's coming off a strong 2025 campaign, where he had a 3.53 ERA in 26 starts with 2.8 bWAR, and 150 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched.
While he's not pitched a full 32-game season, and has dealt with some injuries and inconsistencies in his big-league career, the promise he's shown is more than worth investing in.
Cabrera is one of the top starters who could be dealt this offseason, and if the Yankees, now in talks with the Marlins, can make this deal work, it would be a huge coup for New York after a lackluster offseason to this point.
