The Cowboys decided to remove Prescott in the third quarter and have inserted backup signal-caller Joe Milton in his place.
Here's why the Cowboys made that decision.
Why Cowboys pulled Dak Prescott vs. Giants
The Cowboys have nothing to play for in Week 18, so it only made sense to pull Prescott from the contest early.
It really didn't make much sense to play Prescott to begin with, as Dallas risked injury to their star quarterback that could have impacted his 2026 campaign.
Thankfully, Prescott avoided injury before being taken out.
In the week leading up to the game against the Giants, owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted the Cowboys would make this move.

"We're gonna start Dak," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "How we use Dak, let's make that part of the game plan that we won't talk about."
Prescott enjoyed a solid season for the Cowboys.
Entering Week 18, he had 4,482 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to 10 picks.
Despite those numbers, the Cowboys failed to make the postseason, which was mostly a result of Dallas' putrid defense.
If the Cowboys can build up that side of the ball in 2026, they have a good shot to get over the hump and back into the playoffs.
