Following the Rebels' 39-34 win over Georgia to advance to the semifinal, on Jan. 1, Ole Miss sophomore Will Echoles took the mic and gave a shoutout to Adams and his mother. Adams was shot and killed outside a house party near Memphis on July 19.

According to the Jackson Clarion Ledger ― part of the USA TODAY Network ― Adams' death has been talked about frequently during the Rebels' playoff run. The team has worn helmet stickers with his initials and number throughout the season.
"I feel like he's watching us, and he's guiding us through each game," star Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss said.
Adams was a three-star recruit after leading Edna Karr to a state championship as a senior. He was provided "life-saving measures,” but pronounced dead on the scene. Adams was one of five shooting victims related to the incident.
His mother spoke to the team in New Orleans ahead of the Sugar Bowl.
