Where Wisconsin football's 2026 transfer class ranks nationally

Wisconsin's 2026 transfer portal class is up to 31 commitments, as of Jan. 19.

The group's headliners: running back Abu Sama (Iowa State), wide receiver Zion Kearney (Oklahoma), wide receiver Shamar Rigby (Oklahoma State), quarterback Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), interior offensive lineman Austin Kawecki (Oklahoma State) and safety Marvin Burks Jr. (Missouri).

Along with the 31 additions, the program saw 23 players exit during the transfer cycle. That roster churn will see new starters across the depth chart, including at quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, center, edge rusher, cornerback and defensive line.

Wisconsin's success during the 2026 season will largely be defined by the transfer class's performance. The program's two-year streak of missing the postseason adds significant stakes to that performance; in all likelihood, the group will decide Luke Fickell's future with the program.

For context on how the class is viewed nationally, here is where it stands in 247Sports and On3's updated hierarchy.

Wisconsin football 2026 transfer portal class ranking (Jan. 19)

  • 247Sports: No. 42 nationally, No. 10 Big Ten

  • On3: No. 18 nationally, No. 3 Big Ten

Of note, On3's ranking process takes into account departing transfers, working to evaluate each program's overall roster improvement.
