Where does Texans' C.J. Stroud rank among QBs in QBR entering Week 18?

1 week ago 2

Is C.J. Stroud holding back the Houston Texans, or is he the reason the offense can get enough done en route to a 12-win season?

In Saturday's 20-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Stroud impressed on the first two drives with a pair of explosive touchdown passes to Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. He also struggled the rest of game, tossing a pair of interceptions and going 3-of-11 on third down.

Stroud finished with 244 passing yards while completing 57.1 percent of his throws. His passer rating hovered at 80.1, while his QBR came in at 52.4.

For the season, Stroud has an ESPN "Total QBR" rating of 61.9, ranking 9th among all 32 starting QBs entering Sunday's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. This is quite a surprise, since Stroud missed nearly a month, meaning other players have been given a leash to work on bolstering their numbers to enter the closing weeks of the regular season.

Looking at the other passers, Stroud has a higher QBR than Ravens MVP gunslinger Lamar Jackson, Seahawks' Sam Darnold. and Broncos' Bo Nix.

Unlike a traditional passer rating, the Total QBR “incorporates all of a quarterback’s contributions to winning, including how he impacts the game on passes, rushes, turnovers and penalties,” according to ESPN.
