What did PFF think of Bucs' Emeka Egbuka in Week 17?

1 week ago 2

Emeka Egbuka has looked like he is going to be one of the future weapons of the Bucs offense. The pick that shocked everyone in round one started out looking like a homerun, but he has cooled in recent weeks. Through 17 weeks of the season, he has impressed more than he hasn't.

But of course, there is always more to see besides what the box score and TV tell us. To get some added context, we can turn to Pro Football Focus for that.

PFF's Dalton Wasserman took a deep dive into the work of all 32 first-round draft picks who played in Week 17 this past weekend. PFF offers us some deeper insight into the performance, and Wasserman was able to lay out what Egbuka's work looked like.

Wasserman writes, "Egbuka reeled in three of his five targets for 20 yards in the Buccaneers' Week 17 loss to the Dolphins. None of those receptions resulted in first downs. Egbuka seems to be sliding behind Jalen McMillan in the pecking order of Buccaneers wide receivers. Tampa Bay faces the Panthers in Week 18 with a chance to win the NFC South. Egbuka caught just one pass, a season low, in the first meeting between the two teams."

Despite the lackluster performances in recent weeks, Egbuka is just 70 receiving yards away from having 1,000 on the year. None of it will matter though if the team doesn't get their business done on Saturday against the Panthers.
