Warriors' Draymond Green Responds To Kerr's "Fading Dynasty" Comment

1 week ago 2

On Christmas Eve, during a post-practice news conference, Steve Kerr made the admission that the Golden State Warriors are a fading dynasty. “We are no longer the ’17 Warriors dominating the league,” Kerr said. “We are a fading dynasty. We know that. Everybody knows that." While Kerr wasn't breaking any news, hearing the admission from the Warriors' head coach was sobering for the fanbase, especially since the team has consistently maintained that it still believes a championship is within reach.

During a recent episode of "The Draymond Green Show" podcast, the future Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on Kerr's comments and what that means for the team in the short term.

"I know a lot was made this week about Steve's comment about us being a fading dynasty," Green said. "And when you get down to it, the reality of it is, it's true. Dynasties don't last forever. What you do is you try to prolong them as long as you can. You try to build on them as much as you can. He didn't say we're a dynasty that's faded. He said we are a fading dynasty. Guess what? Steph Curry's in year 17. I'm in year 14. Klay Thompson, who's gone, would be in year 15. Steve Curry's in his 12-year coaching. He didn't start with us from the beginning.

Bob Myers is gone. We've been at it for a while. He's not throwing salt. He's not putting the team down. It's true. But it's our job as the ones inside the dynasty to try to prolong it as long as we're given the opportunity. And that's where we are. How much more can we do? That's the goal. That's the mindset. That's the mission. That's the reality."

Being an aging team in the NBA isn't easy. That's why the front office has attempted to thread the needle of retooling with young talent behind the veteran core. Brandin Podziemski, Quinten Post, Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Will Richard have all played key parts at times during the season. The goal is to find the right balance between youth and experience, hoping it's enough to spark a run.

Golden State is still trying to find the right blend of the players available. A trade could be imminent. However, with Kerr leading the team and Curry still operating as the best shooter in the NBA, it's still too early to write the team off as yesterday's news. People tried doing that in 2022, and look how that turned out.
