Vol legacy projected for Oklahoma commitment after hiring Jason Witten

Former Tennessee tight end Jason Witten was hired at Oklahoma on Thursday. He will serve as the Sooners' tight ends coach, according to On3.

Witten served as head coach from 2021-25 at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas.

Following being hired by Oklahoma, his son and 2027 prospect, Cooper Witten, received an expert prediction to commit to the Sooners from Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound five-star linebacker named his top 10 schools in Nov. 2025: Tennessee, Texas A&M, GeorgiaAlabamaNotre DameTexasOklahomaClemsonOhio State and Texas Tech.

Jason Witten played 17 seasons in the NFL for Dallas and the Raiders. He was selected by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL draft (No. 69 overall).

Jason Witten played for the Vols from 2000-02 and is from Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
