The Minnesota Vikings put together a stacked roster this season.

But they didn't get good enough quarterback play from J.J. McCarthy (or backups Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer) to make it matter, and they'll be watching the playoffs from home.

The questions this offseason will almost all center around the QB position.

Is McCarthy good enough? Do they need competition, or just a straight-up replacement?

ESPN's Kevin Seifert took a deep dive in a new article about McCarthy, examining what went wrong and what could be next.

Seifert acknowledged that the trade rumors will be coming.

"The Vikings likely will be connected to every rumor about possible trades for an established starter, be it Burrow, the Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson, the Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray or others," Seifert wrote. "No one ESPN spoke with would rule out that possibility, but they noted that O'Connell's push to get McCarthy on the field for Sunday's season finale against the Green Bay Packers (1 p.m. ET, CBS) suggests a desire to continue working with him."

Part of the problem this season is that the Vikings really didn't have a good alternative to turn to.

"What almost everyone agreed on, however, is that the Vikings can't fail again to acquire a veteran quarterback who can provide what (Sam) Darnold delivered in 2024 and what they hoped (Daniel) Jones would give them in 2025," Seifert writes.

There will be veterans like that available, and one especially intriguing option in Malik Willis from the Packers.

There's no telling where the Vikings go from here, but the QB position in Minnesota is going to be in the spotlight until they solve it one way or another.
