Another day, another notable pickup for USC in the transfer portal. On Tuesday, the Trojans went and brought in help at a position of need from a Big Ten foe, landing former Michigan State defensive lineman Alex VanSumeren.
In four seasons with the Spartans, VanSumeren recorded 79 total tackles, three sacks, and one pass defended. He will have one season of eligibility remaining with the Trojans.

USC got to get an in-person look at VanSumeren this past season, as he recorded six tackles in the Trojans' victory over Michigan State in September. The two teams are not scheduled to face each other in 2026, however, meaning that VanSumeren will not get to face his former team.
VanSumeren is USC's fourth transfer portal addition since Sunday. With no spring transfer window this year, expect general manager Chad Bowden and the Trojans to continue to be aggressive in the portal this winter as they look to turn their roster into that of a Big Ten contender.
