Less than a week after rumors began to swirl that a season-ending loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 could end Mike Tomlin's tenure with the Steelers, more doubt has been cast on the veteran head coach's tenure with the team.
The Steelers face a massive showdown with the Ravens this weekend, as the winner of the Baltimore-Pittsburgh clash will be the AFC North champions and guaranteed a spot in the postseason. But whoever loses will see their season come to an end – and it would mark the fourth time in eight years the Steelers miss the postseason if they don't emerge victorious.

According to Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, who serves as a Steelers correspondent with The Pat McAfee Show and works with 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, he believes Art Rooney will decline the 2027 option on Tomlin's contract if the Steelers are defeated by the Ravens this weekend. While that doesn't suggest Tomlin would be fired, it does mean he would enter the 2026 season as a lame-duck coach and would be forced to earn a contract extension based on the team's performance next year.
This comes just days after NFL insider Adam Schefter shared on The Pat McAfee Show that he believes it is in the "realm of possibility" that the Steelers part ways with Tomlin if the Steelers lose in Week 18.
Tomlin's seat with the franchise he has now coached for 19 years is hotter than ever, and a playoff bid would go a long way toward cooling things down. The Steelers and Ravens will meet on Sunday Night Football this weekend at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
