UNC to host former LSU CB Ashton Stamps on campus visit

North Carolina will host plenty of visitors in January after the transfer portal signing window opened Friday.

One of the players scheduled to visit Chapel Hill is former LSU cornerback Ashton Stamps, who will be on campus Saturday, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

In his first two seasons in Baton Rouge, Stamps appeared in 24 games with 17 starts for LSU. He recorded 74 tackles and 16 pass breakups during that span.

The New Orleans-area native started all 13 games as a sophomore in 2024, emerging as the Tigers’ top cornerback. He finished with 51 tackles and led the SEC with 14 pass deflections.

However, he fell down the depth chart during the regular season as Virginia Tech transfer Mansoor Delane, five-star freshman D.J. Pickett and P.J. Woodland handled most of the snaps at cornerback. Stamps left the LSU program in October with the intention of entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Stamps will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at his next stop, with North Carolina getting the first visit.

If UNC can land him, it would be a significant addition. While he may not project as an All-America player, he could be a starter or, at worst, a key depth piece in the Tar Heels’ secondary. His experience in the SEC, one of the premier conferences in the country, also should not be overlooked as well.
